Relax for Better Health
Did you know that 80% of the population experiences
tension-type headaches. We all need to learn to relax!
Its no wonder relaxation has actually become a medical
treatment. Well, before the doctor has to write you a
prescription, why don’t you try these seven steps to
relaxation.
Find a comfortable space
The best place to relax will vary for everyone, and it
doesn't matter where it is as long as you're
comfortable. You can find a comfy chair, a cushion on
the floor, or immerse yourself up to your chin in a
bubble bath. What matters is that the place is quiet,
you're comfortable, and there won't be any interruptions
or distractions.
Watch a candle flame
Watching a candle flame can be very relaxing for some
people. You can also use scented oils to give your room
a nice, relaxing scent. If you choose to use a candle
and watch the flame place it somewhere you'll be able to
see it easily while relaxing your body.
Try some soft music
If you want, put on some soft music. Choose something
instrumental with no lyrics to distract you. Keep the
pace gentle and relaxed.
Get comfortable
Now get comfortable. You can sit down or lie down. Just
don't choose a position in which you're likely to fall
asleep. If you find warm baths calming, relaxation in
the bath surrounded by candles can be a good idea.
Breath deep
As you begin to relax, take slow, deep breaths from your
diaphragm. Concentrate for a few minutes on nice, deep
breaths that fill your lungs and expand your rib cage.
Relax your arms at your sides or on your lap and
continue the deep, relaxing breathing.
Relax
your body
Begin with your toes, and work your way up. Be aware of
any areas where your muscles are tense and spend a bit
of extra time concentrating on those areas.
Stretch gently
Take inventory of how you feel. Mentally and
emotionally, you should feel calmer. Physically, your
muscles should feel more relaxed. Taking time for
relaxation on a regular basis has great benefits, and as
it becomes a regular habit, it should increase in
effectiveness.
